Local Community Initiatives

Guaracachi is the proud sponsor of Bolivian local football team"Club Destroyers" of Santa Cruz who play in the national 'Copa Simon Bolivar' league.

Rurelec is actively involved in supporting socially beneficial initiatives at national as well as local level. Through Guaracachi we fully support the government's 'Tarifa de Dignidad' project in Bolivia. Rurelec was the only company to support government moves to introduce this social tariff for disadvantaged lower income groups, as a result of which other more conservative power companies fell in line with Rurelec's position.

At local level we are actively engaged with the communities where our plants are situated. We have concluded a ground-breaking agreement with the Bolivian government for the investment of a share of our future CER revenues in Rural Electrification programmes and other social programmes to the amount of US $1 million per year. We are conscious of the impact of our plants and have invested in sound proofing to reduce the disturbance of the local population as well as sponsorship of tree planting "green area" schemes with the local municipality.
